What Guides Every Assessment

Four commitments that define how we work and what we deliver.

📏

Measurement Over Assumption

Every claim we make is backed by lab data. We don't extrapolate or guess—we test, measure, and verify.

🏗️

Code Compliance First

OBC, NBC, and CSA standards aren't obstacles. They're the foundation. All recommendations keep you within code and ahead of liability.

🔍

Transparency in Technical Work

Our reports explain findings in language that architects, engineers, and building managers can act on immediately.

⚙️

Long-Term Durability

We're interested in how your glass performs in 10 years, not just tomorrow. Our recommendations account for Canadian climate cycles and material aging.

How Glastenb Started

In 2020, our founders—a structural engineer and a materials scientist—were frustrated by the gap between glass performance in the lab and what they observed in real buildings across Ontario and Canada. Standard testing protocols didn't capture the complexity of thermal cycling, seal failure progression, or frame stress over time. Building inspectors were using 20-year-old reference data. Facility managers had no way to measure actual energy loss from their glazing.

We founded Glastenb Materials to change that. Our lab uses current ASTM testing standards, but we've added infrared thermography, acoustic stress analysis, and long-term environmental chamber testing. Our reports are technical but transparent. Our recommendations are honest: sometimes you need to replace; sometimes a targeted repair extends life by a decade.

The Experts Behind Every Report

Scientists and engineers who have spent careers understanding how buildings fail—and how to prevent it.

DR

Dr. Elena Rossi

Founder & Materials Scientist

PhD in Materials Engineering (University of Toronto). 11 years in advanced glass research. Developed the thermal stress modeling framework used in all Glastenb audits.

JH

James Hartley

Founder & Structural Engineer

P.Eng. with 14 years in building science and envelope performance. Previously managed structural assessments for major Toronto development firms.

Lab Director & Testing Specialist

PhD in Civil Engineering, specialization in material durability. Manages all ASTM and CSA testing protocols. 8 years of field and lab experience.

"We believe technical honesty is the highest form of service. Glass performs or it doesn't. Our job is to know the difference—and tell you the truth."

From the first field audit to the final report, Glastenb exists to give Canadian builders, architects, and facility managers the precise information they need to make confident decisions about their building envelope.

Testing That Goes Beyond the Standard

Our lab uses current ASTM testing standards enhanced with cutting-edge diagnostic tools not found in typical building inspection firms. We go further—because Canadian buildings demand it.

  • Infrared thermography for thermal bridge detection
  • Acoustic stress analysis for hidden micro-fractures
  • Long-term environmental chamber cycling
  • Seal failure progression mapping
  • Frame stress measurement under load
  • Energy loss quantification per glazing unit

All testing meets or exceeds OBC, NBC, and applicable CSA standards. Reports are delivered in clear, actionable language for architects, engineers, and facilities managers.

Trusted by Technical Professionals

"Glastenb's team understands the science deeply but explains it clearly. That's rare in technical consulting. Their audit saved us from a $700K retrofit we didn't actually need."

Patricia Lim
Building Engineer · Downtown Toronto Portfolio

"We trust Glastenb because they have no incentive to oversell solutions. They're not a contractor trying to land the job—they're scientists who want to get the diagnosis right."

Robert MacLeod
